The International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA) is a non-profit, member-based organisation seeking to promote and support internationalisation of South African higher education for the benefit of its members and the country as a whole.

Similar to the professional standards of other international education associations, to which many of us belong, IEASA has adopted the practice of proactively inviting you to renew your membership on an annual basis. Once you pay membership at the start of the year, you are eligible for all membership benefits.

IEASA’s Value Proposition to its members:

As the leading national South African organisation with a dedicated focus on HE internationalisation, IEASA is the South African expert in the field and serves as a first point of call for those who want to engage on HE internationalisation matters in the country. The Association offers its members a range of services and products, as indicated below, including aspirational services to be delivered over the next few years:

Advocacy

  • Providing a collective, independent voice of its members on HE internationalisation issues, both locally and internationally
  • Collaborating with other relevant organisations in the field

Marketing

  • Marketing South African HE, with a focus on digital and online platforms, via:
    – IEASA website, Study SA guides etc.
    – Study SA exhibitions at international conferences

Information & Knowledge Sharing

  • Sharing information, knowledge and best practices on a wide variety of HE internationalisation topics via:
    – IEASA website, email distribution list and electronic newsletters
    – IEASA webinar series
  • Facilitating research on HE internationalisation
  • Representing SA HE at international conferences and events

Training & Development

  • Facilitating training and development of international educators, practitioners & others involved in HE internationalisation, particularly in Africa, through:
    – IEASA conference sessions and workshops
    – Short courses and learning programmes
    – Leadership opportunities through involvement in IEASA structures
    – Induction and mentoring programme for new members

Products & Resources

  • Developing products and resources, such as:
    – Medical aid project
    – Immigration procedure manual
    – Code of Ethical Practice
    – Crisis management framework for HEIs

Networking & Engagement

  • Providing access to country-wide network of HE internationalisation stakeholders as well as sister organisations
  • Facilitating professional networking and engagement through annual conferences and other events (workshops, dialogues, etc.)
  • Supporting the development of regional and national communities of practice in HE internationalisation
  • Promoting an African focus in HE internationalisation

TYPE OF MEMBERSHIP AND COST

Individual membership

Individual membership from African countries

Available to any person who by virtue of his/her vocation, position or interest is committed to the objectives of  IEASA.

Fee: R600

Membership fee is for the period 01 January 2023 – 31 December 2023 irrespective of the date of joining.

International membership

Available to any person who by virtue of his/her vocation, position or interest is committed to the goals of  IEASA and whose primary residence is outside the African continent.

Fee: $190

Membership fee is for the period 01 January 2023 – 31 December 2023 irrespective of the date of joining.

Application for Individual Membership Form

Student membership

Open to individuals enrolled as full time students in institutions of higher learning. Application for membership must be accompanied by verification of enrolment in a full course of study, by an appropriate university official eg. Registrar

Fee: R180

Membership fee is for the period 01 January 2023 – 31 December 2023 irrespective of the date of joining.

We open up international contacts which will benefit students, our tertiary institutions and will assist South Africa to be a competitor and participant in world markets.

Institutional Membership (within South Africa)

Any Educational institution, as well as training and research facilities in South Africa enrolling one or more international student. An International Student is defined as anyone who is enrolled in a course in South Africa, who is not a citizen or permanent resident of South Africa. Application for such membership shall be made on the prescribed form. Each Institutional member shall be entitled to appoint a representative and an alternative representative from the institution. The names of these representatives must be captured when completing the online application. No appointment shall be effective until it has been approved in writing by the IEASA Executive Committee. The representative of the organisation, institution or association shall be entitled to attend, speak and vote at any meeting of the Association that is open to its individual members. The representative will also receives notices and circulars that are sent to its individual members.

Membership fee is for the period 01 January 2023 – 31 December 2023 irrespective of the date of joining.
Application for Institutional Membership Form

Associated organisations

Any organisation or association having objectives similar or in part to the Association may be admitted by the Executive Committee to the status of an Associated Organisation. The terms and conditions of such association shall be fixed in each case by an agreement in writing between the Executive Committee of IEASA and the Associated Organisation.

Student Associations
Campus organisations recognised and approved by the umbrella student association of each university and college applying. The organisation must be international in its objectives and nature and must also generally represent each of the national groups on its campuses or within the Institution. Only one such organisation per campus may apply to be an IEASA member. Applications must be accompanied by a statement of purpose, activities, and proof of recognition by an appropriate institutional official. (e,g. Dean of Student Services). The terms and conditions of such association shall be fixed in each case by an agreement in writing between the Executive Committee of IEASA and the Associated Organisation.

Annual Fee: R14270

Membership fee is for the period 01 January 2023 – 31 December 2023 irrespective of the date of joining.

Corporate Organisations
Corporations, professional associations, service providers, foundations, governments and governmental departments with special interest in International Education. The terms and conditions of such association shall be fixed in each case by an agreement in writing between the Executive Committee of IEASA and the Associated Organisation.
